QUESTION:
There are so many coffee and espresso machines out there. And when I look at the single-serve brewers, the choices make my head spin. (And my wallet cringe.)
All I want is one simple machine on my kitchen counter than can make either a pot of coffee or a shot of espresso. I don’t need anything fancy. No pods or K-Cups. Just a simple countertop combination coffee and espresso machine.
Does such a thing exist?
Daniel
ANSWER:
Daniel, hi
I feel your pain! Well, maybe it’s not exactly painful. But I do empathise with your frustration.
In our own kitchen we have both a drip brewer and an espresso machine. And our kitchen isn’t very large. We don’t have a lot of counter space. So, like you, I have often wondered whether there is a simple way to combine both machines.
And, also like you, I would like to do this without buying an expensive single-serve “coffee beverage system” that will then cost me an arm and a leg every time I go out and buy more coffee.
Fortunately there is an answer. And it’s one I may go for myself when our current machines bite the dust.
In the picture above you can see a De Longhi brewer that delivers exactly what you are looking for - an espresso machine on the left side and a simple drip brewer on the right.
Krups also makes a line of these combination brewers.
Will you get the very best espresso machine and coffee brewer when you buy one of these combination units? Probably not.
Will they make a perfectly reasonable expresso and pot of coffee? I would think so.
In other words, I suspect this is exactly what you are looking for.
If you can’t find one locally, Amazon.com offers a variety of these combination coffee and espresso machines.
If you do buy one, please let us know what you think of it!
