It seems that coffee and desperation go hand in hand. A quick browse through the social media chatter reveals plenty of people who will go to considerable lengths, simply to get their hands on a cup coffee.
I like the first one, about using paper towels instead of a coffee filter, as I have done the same myself. Ditto cotton handkerchiefs (unused). And, on one occasion, a sock.
My lowest moment as a coffee lover came when I made instant coffee with hotel water from a tap in a hotel bathroom. Truly disgusting.
Here is what I found on Twitter and Facebook.
# Speaking of coffee filters, I made one with a paper towel this morning. Desperate times call for desperate measures.
# Stressing...The Fresh Market Grocers is OUT OF Pumpkin Spice Coffee! How can that be??? The checkout girl had no clue how desperate I am!
# i broke the plunger but was so desperate for coffee this morning that i fashioned a make-shift one using a sieve. take that, bodum.
# You know your desperate when You'll drink vending machine coffee
# On my way to work this morning, I saw a woman get out of her car at a gas station...in her BATHROBE! Guess she was desperate for coffee.
# no milk at home, no milk at the corner store or cvs, so i put whipping cream in my coffee.
# Must be desperate! Drinking instant coffee and somehow enjoying it??? I don't think stranger things HAVE happened!
# I may possibly run out of gas in the longest drive through Starbucks line I have ever been in. But I am in desperate need of coffee...
